Tuesday, October 9th, 2012 Cartago, Costa Rica Dear Michael Jordan: As everybody knows, you have a lot of power, fame, and also money. We thought that maybe you can help us with our problem, because you are an example to the society. If you believed that something is good, they will believe too. We hope you can help us to preserve the endangered species. They are beautiful animals and they deserve a better threat. We have to learn to respect the nature and her resources, because we need them to survive. Now we are going to talk about three animals that are beautiful, and probably you will want to help: 1) Gorilla: The gorilla is wonderful animal. It is mammal and also and omnivore. The populations of the gorillas are very little. There are less than 700 of them, and just the half live on the forests; they specially live in the central of Africa, specifically in the forests of the mountains of Virunga. Much of their day is spent in play, climbing trees, chasing one another, and swinging from branches. In captivity, gorillas have displayed significant intelligence and have even learned simple human sign language. However they are cute. 2) Jaguar: Is a big cat, a feline in the Panther genus, and is the only Panther species found in the Americas. The jaguar is the third-largest feline after the tiger and the lion, and the largest in the Western Hemisphere. The jaguar's present range extends from Southern United States and Mexico across much of Central America and south to Paraguay and northern Argentina. Apart from a known and possibly breeding population in Arizona, the cat has largely been extirpated from the United States since the early 20th century. The jaguar is a near threatened species and its numbers are declining. 3) Blue whales: Are the largest animals ever known to have lived on Earth. These magnificent marine mammals rule the oceans at up to 100, long and upwards of 200 tons. Their tongues alone can weigh as much as an elephant. Their hearts, as much as an automobile. Blue whales reach these mind-boggling dimensions on a diet composed nearly exclusively of tiny shrimplike animals called krill. Their group name is Pod. But sadly they are in danger! We thought that you should impulse other people, to act well and change their mind, to walk to a better future. Also I would convince the government to take cards in the case. For example to put rigorous laws, that punished the people who hurt, don’t take care or even that takes advantage of defenseless animals. Another action that we would make is to threaten the people with the imprisonment, high fines and even with sufferer the same that he made to the animal that he hurt, to suffered the same that the animal feel. Because after all we (the animals and us), are part of this world. Thanks! Carolina Leandro & Édgar Astorga 8-1
Dear Obama… We are writing you this letter because we want to show you that we are very concern about three specific animals that are endanger of extinction; and also because we know that you are an influential person that with your money and attitudes can help us a lot. These animals live in Africa and they don´t have the protection they need from the authorities of that country. We think that it is important to protect them to preserve the specie of each specific animal and also to give a stop to that people that are damaging them. Our purpose here is to inform you a little bit about these animals with some information that we prepared, to explain you the importance they have in the world, and also to see if you are interest in helping us. The first animal that is endangering is the cheetah. The cheetah is a large-sized feline inhabiting most of Africa and parts of the Middle East. The cheetah can run faster than any other land animal (as fast as 112 to 120 km/h), so because of this, it is known as the fastest animal in the whole world. Females give birth to up to nine cubs after a gestation period of ninety to ninety-eight days, although the average litter size is three to five. This is a gorgeous animal, so we need to take care of them. The second animal is the rhinoceros. Rhinoceros, often abbreviated as rhino, is a group of five extant species of odd-toed ungulates. Two of these species are native to Africa and three to southern Asia. Members of the rhinoceros family are characterized by their large size (they are some of the largest remaining megafauna, with all of the species able to reach one tonne or more in weight). They have an herbivorous diet. Rhinoceros are killed by humans for their horns, which are bought and sold on the black market, and which are used by some cultures for ornamental or medicinal purposes. The third and last one animal is the bonobo. The bonobo is distinguished by relatively long legs, pink lips, dark face and tail-tuft through adulthood, and parted long hair on its head. The bonobo is found in central Africa. It is endangering, just as the gorilla (they are from the same family). It is commonly considered to be more gracile than the common chimpanzee, and females are somewhat smaller than males. Most studies indicate that females have a higher social status in bonobo society. For conclusion we hope that we could convince you to help us to protect them, and we also want fast answer. Some recommendations that we would like to give you is that please try to make the law that punish every people that is damaging the animal by some ways, some of them are: If someone kill an animal for hunting to take advantage of it, this person is going to jail for some years. The other idea we had is that, if someone is find with the rhinoceros ‘horns, this person will have to make a community job in the villages of Africa. We really want your big help, not for us, just for taking care of the animals. Please help us! Waiting for your answer Fiorella Agostini and Alisson Cordero
Tuesday October 9, 2012 Cartago, Costa Rica Dear Barack Obama: Well, please let us ask you how you doing? We hope you are having a good day. We decide to write this letter because we are very concern about problematic of our world, maybe you are thinking what problematic? The world is facing some crisis, it is having some species in danger, and the cause of this are the humans. If you think well, our world it isn’t the same without the animals, they are part of our lives. It is important to protect them because some animals provide us food, others help people to make jobs and also in medicine. They keep green our world, we have to find a balance way to get the resources because humans are taking advantage from them, one day we won’t have the same number of animals and until people see the mistake they are making, they will make conscience of that. We write you this letter because you can help us making programs to protect animals, donating money making new rules. An animal in danger is the Blue Whale, from their liver they provide us vitamins, people use their tooth to make jewelry and their meet also provide us vitamins. They are the largest animal in the world, their heart works as an automobile. They are intelligent because they measure their food in a diet, they know how to eat well and we can say that they know how to have a balance weight. They eat a fish name: krill, they can eat 4 tons of krill in one day. The whale has an impressionable speed, they cruise an ocean in five hours. Also blue whales have like a special language between them. Other specie in danger is the jaguar; it is a big cat in the Panthera genus. The jaguar is the third-largest feline after the tiger and the lion, and the largest in the Western Hemisphere. The jaguar has an exceptionally powerful bite, even relative to the other big cats. This allows it to pierce the shells of armored reptiles and to employ an unusual killing method: it bites directly through the skull of prey between the ears to deliver a bite to the brain. They are solitary, that help them to move fast and in a silence way. . Size and weight are variable; weights are normally in the range of 56–96 kg. The Siberian Tiger is the last specie in danger that we are going to talk you. It is known as Amur tiger. Nowadays there are from 80 to 150 Siberian tigers in the whole world. They have like a yellow color and their length isn’t less than 150cm. They are very fast; Siberian tigers are known to travel up to 1,000 km. One of the most known causes of its extinction is the hunting of those animals. They are searched because of its kind of skin. Its skin is used to make coats but they kill a lot of animals to make them. They are intelligent because they know when they can attack their victims, the specials positions and the places he have to bite. Maybe you are surprise of animals that we are losing because of humans; people have to take some rules to stop that. For example if they haunt the Siberian Tigers people have to pay a big amount of money or go to jail. Also people can make a place where their habitat is protected and also the animal, where the human can’t enter. Companies were people have to donate money to help the animals. Maybe if they follow these new rules we would have a better world with balance between humans and nature, were animals can leave in peace Thank you for your time. Have a nice day Paula Roselló Cordero Fabián Sanabria Jara
Dear Édgar Silva This letter is made for asking you to protect the animals that are in danger of extinction. Some of the species that are in this danger are the gorilla, the Siberian tiger and the Bonobo. It is a fact that each year their population decreases more. There are many ways to reduce this problem, so we are going to give you some advices to help us to protect the animals. First, we will give you some information of this animals and why theyneed our protection. The Siberian tiger is also known as the Amur tiger. These tiger subspecies are locatedin the SikhoteAlin mountain region with a small subpopulation in the Russian Far East. The population has been stable for more than a decade because of intensive conservation efforts, but partial surveys conducted after 2005 indicate that the Russian tiger population is declining. Nowadays there are from 80 to 150 Siberian tigers in the whole world. The Siberian tiger can be white or yellow, with narrow black transverse stripes. The body length is not less than 150 cm. These tigers prey brown and black bears. From 1998 t0 2007, only 17 instances of tiger attacking bears were recorded in the Russian Far East. They are in danger because people use their fur to make coats and other things. The Bonobo is a great animal and one of the two species making up the genus Pan; the other is Pan Troglodytes, or the common chimpanzee. It is distinguished by relatively long legs, pink lips, and dark face and also because of the long hair on its head. The bonobo is found in the Congo Basin in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central Africa. Along with the common chimpanzee, the bonobo is the closest extant relative to humans. It is commonly considered to be bigger than the common chimpanzee, and females are somewhat smaller than males. The cheetah is a large-sized feline inhabiting most of Africa and parts of the Middle East. Although it can reach high speeds, its body cannot stand long distance running, because it is more suited to short bursts of speed. The cheetah is a carnivore, eating the Thomson's gazelle, the Grant's gazelle, the springbok and the impala. Cheetahs are included on the International Union for Conservation of Nature list of vulnerable species and also on the US Endangered Species Act: threatened species. Females reach maturity in twenty to twenty-four months, and males around twelve months. Finishing, we ask you to use Teletica channel to promote the animals’ conservation. We ask you as a person with power in Costa Rica to use it as a tool to avoid this mistreatment on the animals. Some legal actions that we suggest you are to put in jail the person who abuse of this animals and also to make the people to pay money because of this uncontrolled killing to them. You can make some campaigns to show to the people that these animals are a very important part of the world and we can’t ignore this fact. Maybe if you start promoting these actions people will make conscience about the suffering they provoke to those species. Thank you for your attention, Arianna Araya Mena Edwin Obando Venegas
Hi guys, I already checked your production. You did a good job. However, I have to ask teacher Carlos about how to grade it (percentage) and about a little mistake that all of you committed. So, I'll give you your grade as soon as possible.
Hello, I just sent you your feedback and grade to your e-mails! Great job! Please check your mails, and let me know if you got your productions! If you have any question just ask me :D Congrats!
Dear, Will Smith: We are writing you this letter because we want you to help us with some endangered animals. We think that it will be a good idea because of three main reasons: first, you already made some campaigns about the animals. Second, you are so famous and popular. And also because you have lots of money that will help us with some ideas that we have to protect the endangered animals. But first of all we want you to know that we are completely engaged with this problem, so we will try to do what is in our hands to let this animals live in peace. We think that some of the most endangered animals are the Orangutan, the African Penguins, and the Giant Panda,so we think that is important to let you know some facts and information about this three animals. • The African Penguin: they are found on the south-western coast of Africa, living in colonies on 24 islands between Namibia and Algoa Bay, near Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Also, they have a black stripe and black spots on the chest, the pattern of spots being unique for every penguin, like human fingerprints. Their predators include sharks, Seals and, orcas. The hotter the penguin gets, the more blood is sent to the pink glands they have to regulate their temperature, so it may be cooled by the surrounding air, and their body will react as making the glands more pink. The African penguin is an endangered animal because they are hunting in huge ways by the humans, so their population decreases.
• The Orangutan: orangutans are currently found in the rainforest of Borneo and Sumatra. They are divided into two species: the Bornean orangutan, which is also divided in other 3 subspecies, and the orangutan. They spend the most of their time in the trees. Fruit is the most important component of an orangutan's diet, however, they also eat vegetation, bark, honey, insects and even bird eggs. They are among the most intelligent primates .Threats to wild orangutan populations include poaching, habitat destruction and the illegal pet trade. • The Giant Panda: The giant panda lives in a few mountain ranges in central China, mainly in Sichuan province, but also in the Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. It has distinctive black patches around the eyes, over the ears, and across its round body. The wild Giant Panda occasionally eat other grasses, wild tubers, or even meat in the form of birds, rodents or carrion. They are in danger because people hunt then and when they are in the civilization they receive honey, eggs, fish, yams, shrub leaves, oranges, or bananas that don’t fit with their common diet. Another action that people do against the pandas is that they destroy their habit
As you can see the principal thing that cause the situation of this endangered animals is the human, so we think that it will be a good idea that if you help us to create special reservations and places to let the animals live in a healthy environment. Also,we think that because of the power you have, it will be very nice if you talk to Obama so, both of you can discuss the importance of making new rules based on the treatment that people give to endangered animals for example you can create some kind of law that says if the person hunt or destroy the habit of the animal they will have a consequence. Sincerely, Kevin Guzman Carolina Fonseca

Tuesday, October 9th2012. Dear Laura Chinchilla. Hi! This letter is because I want to let you know that I have important information and new ideas for you and all the people. The last week, I was working with this information about some animals that I observed. I think this information is really important because I found a lot of animals in danger of extinction, and I think it’s our fault. We need to change the attitude, because we are hurting the animals without any reason. The animals have a very important role in our lives, because of this, we have to protect the species, and not hurt them. One animal that is in my list is the Giant Panda. We know him as giant panda to distinguish it from the unrelated red panda, is a bear native to central-western and south western China. Their food is 99% bamboo;occasionally they eat other grasses, or even meat. In captivity they may receive honey, eggs, fish, oranges or bananas along with special prepared food. The panda is a reliant endangered, a 2007 report shows 239 pandas living in captivity inside China and another 27 outside the country.Wild population may vary; one estimation shows that there are about 1,590 individuals living in the wild, while a 2006 study via DNA analysis estimated that this figure could be as high as 2,000 to 3,000. Another animal who is endangered is the Orangutan. The orangutans are the two exclusively Asian species of great apes. Native to Indonesia and Malaysia, orangutans are currently found in only the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra. Fruit is the most important component of an orangutan's diet; however, the apes also eat vegetation, bark, honey, insects and even bird eggs. They can live over 30 years in both the wild and captivity. Orangutans are critically endangered. Human activities have caused severe decline in the populations. Threats to wild orangutan populations include poaching, habitat destruction and the illegal pet trade. Finally, I hope this information can be useful for our change, because like I said before they are important. I don’t want buildings in natural habitats, it should be forbidden and people should go to jail. I want more animals in the world; if someone kills one, he or she should go to jail the rest of his or her life. If someone uses them for something else like for clothing or petting, the punishment should be severe. I think some of these recommendations can be useful, because people would know that they shouldn’t do anything to animals. I hope animals receive respect as we want it too, without the injustice of people. Sincerely, Génesis Ramírez Ramírez
Hi Génesis,I already checked your production. You did a good job. However, I have to ask teacher Carlos about how to grade it (percentage) and about a little mistake that all of you committed. So, I'll give you your grade as soon as possible.
Hello Génesis, I've sent you your feedback and grade to your e-mail! You did an excellent job! Please check your mail, and let me know if you got your production! If you have any question just ask me :D Congrats!
Dear Paul McCartney. I wrote this letter asking to you for help and waiting do not disturb you. It is for good reasons I want to ask for your help for animals that are in danger of extinction. Today people do not take importance of the animal and you can help us with campaigns to protect the animals. Also you can help us with donations to locations that protect this kind of animals. You know that the animals are passing bad situations because of the humans. You can star help us to make the change. We know that you are a charitable person and I hope you can help us. Many people hear you more than to us you are a good person and your help can obtain more people that want to help the animals. Some examples of animals that need your help are: The Komodo dragons, they are the heaviest lizards on Earth but nowadays there are no many of these animals. Already of 100 years ago it existence was unknown. They have long, flat heads with rounded snouts, scaly skin, bowed legs, and huge, muscular tails. There is a stable population of about 3,000 to 5,000 Komodo dragons on the islands of Komodo, Gila Motang, Rinca, and Flores. However, a dearth of egg-laying females, poaching, human encroachment, and natural disasters has driven the species to endangered status. Polar bears roam the Arctic ice sheets and swim in that region's coastal waters. These powerful predators typically prey on seals. In search of this quarry they frequent areas of shifting, cracking ice where seals may surface to breathe air. They also stalk ice edges and breathing holes. If the opportunity presents itself, polar bears will also consume carcasses, such as those of dead whales. Polar bears are attractive and appealing, but they are powerful predators that do not typically fear humans, but they can be dangerous. The polar bears acquire a taste for garbage, bringing bears and humans into perilous proximity. Well now you know some species that need your help you can know more about them and others. There are really important animals for the nature and for the world. You can help them and also you can talk with your friends and family to help this cause. Is really important change the attitude of the world and we can start now. If many people accepts help and are determined to make the change we can, we have to stop the warming (it affects the animals), we can stop hunting if is not necessary and we can stop to kill animals. You have to know that all is in our hands with more people that want to help animals they can found a better kind of life. Thanks for read it, I hope you can help!
Dear Shakira and Pique: Hello we hope that you are fine, and at the same time we want to ask you for help with this important letter. We are a company that has many programs to protect endangered animals like for example the orangutan, blue whales, angle and many other that need our help. This time we are helping three specific species such as the giant pandas, seals and the polar bears. But we have problems to maintain this company, we do not have enough money to help all these animal. For that reason we think that you can help us with money and supports us for a good cause. We want to tell you a little bite of information, just to let you know how do they behave, what they eat and also why they are in extinction.
**The polar bear: It’s a mammal. They are among the largest carnivores in the world. Its scientific name, Ursus maritimus, suggests that the polar bear is primarily a marine bear. Their fur is thicker than any other bears’ and covers even their feet, for warmth and traction on ice. It also provides them camouflage. The long neck and narrow skull helps them in the water. The polar bear is an excellent swimmer. They roam the Antarctic ice sheets and swim in that region’s coastal waters. They live in one of the planet’s coldest environments. They feed almost exclusively on ringed seals and, to a lesser extent, bearded seals they also travel great distances in search of prey. It has been known for some time that the polar bear is in trouble, new research shows that Arctic ice - the polar bear's primary habitat - is melting much faster than scientists had believed. Also they are in extinction because there are many people that haunt them just because of their fur. They used it to make expensive coats. Another reason is when they are little, with just a few months are attack by the predators that are other polar bears.
**Seals: These animals can be found in the majority of the waters in the world, from the Arctic and Antarctic to tropical waters. Seals have large eyes, which are able to focus both above and below water. Also they have an excellent sense of smell, allowing them to detect predators. Seals are protected from the cold by a thick layer of blubber combined with a thick fur coat. And finally is important to know there is a specific species that people used to kill, just like a sport which is deplorable for our company.
**Giant panda: They have an insatiable appetite towards bamboo. It takes 28 pounds (12.5 kilograms) of bamboo to satisfy a giant panda. Pandas will sometimes eat birds or rodents as well.Wild pandas live only in remote, mountainous regions in central China. These high bamboo forests are cool and wet—just as pandas like itThey may climb as high as 13,000 feet (3,962 meters) to feet on higher slopes in the summer season. The panda is becoming endangered because its habitat in China is being destroyed. Humans are stripping China of its bamboo forests, where the pandas live. Pandas eat bamboo mostly and if people destroy these forests there will be no food. Many are also killed/severely injured during the deforestation process. This is mainly to build industrial buildings such as factories. Also the pandas are going extict because of the golbal warming.
Well as you may see, we got to tell you the most important facts about this three animals, our main point, well as we already told you is that when you finish reading all this things you can consider helping us, actually not us them, beacuse they are the ones that in this moments really need some help. We will be waiting for your answer. With sincere greetings Valeria Cortes S. Ma.Fernanda Mendéz A.

Also people can make a place where their habitat is protected and also the animal, where the human can’t enter. Companies were people have to donate money to help the animals. Maybe if they follow these new rules we would have a better world with balance between humans and nature, were animals can leave in peace
Thank you for your time. Have a nice day

Dear Édgar Silva
ReplyDeleteThis letter is made for asking you to protect the animals that are in danger of extinction.
Thank you for your attention,

Hi guys, I already checked your production. You did a good job. However, I have to ask teacher Carlos about how to grade it (percentage) and about a little mistake that all of you committed. So, I'll give you your grade as soon as possible.
DeleteHello, I just sent you your feedback and grade to your e-mails! Great job! Please check your mails, and let me know if you got your productions! If you have any question just ask me :D Congrats!
DeleteDear, Will Smith:
ReplyDeleteWe are writing you this letter because we want you to help us with some endangered animals.
Sincerely,
Kevin Guzman

ReplyDeleteDear Laura Chinchilla.
Sincerely,
Génesis Ramírez Ramírez

DeleteDear Paul McCartney.
ReplyDeleteI wrote this letter asking to you for help and waiting do not disturb you.
Some examples of animals that need your help are:
The Komodo dragons, they are the heaviest lizards on Earth but nowadays there are no many of these animals.
Jazmín Gómez.
Dear Shakira and Pique:
ReplyDeleteHello we hope that you are fine, and at the same time we want to ask you for help with this important letter.
With sincere greetings
Valeria Cortes S.
